CODING

Computer science is one of the fastest growing careers in the world. According to www.code.org, there are currently over 500,000 computer science jobs available in the United States. The demand for qualified students will only continue to grow as technology becomes more and more a part of our daily lives. These jobs pay well and these are the companies (like Google, Apple, and Microsoft) that are creating the digital world we live in today. Coding provides students with a hands-on opportunity to build and create computer programs and applications on their own at a basic level.

Students create algorithms to solve problems and puzzles, as well as to create their own art, animations and games. They learn the basics of computer science, problem-solving skills, and relevant vocabulary. They will be able to create basic games and applications using programs created by code.org and scratch.mit.edu. All students will create and present a powerpoint on an occupation in computer science. Advanced students will start to write their own code on programs like codecombat.com and codecademy.com.
